Beyond Empathy will be presented by Tennessee Valley Mediation Association (TVMA) on May 21, 2019 at 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The course is pending approval for 1.0 hour of CME.

The class “Beyond Empathy” will be presented by Joe Jarret, J.D. Come and learn more about mediating in the midst of tragedy.

About the presentation:
The program is designed to assist mediators when one of the parties has suffered a catastrophic loss by creating a culture that gets beyond the tragedy and moves forward with a renewed purpose designed to assist the grieving party in having a fulfilling mediation experience.

About: The Presenter

Joe Jarret has served as a mediator both in Florida and Tennessee and is the past-president of the Tennessee Valley Mediation Association, and a member of the Board of the Tennessee Association of Professional Mediators (TAPM). He has practiced law before the Tennessee Supreme Court, and lower state appellate, trial and federal courts and has appeared before the Florida Governor and his Cabinet.

Joe has provided CME-certified training on behalf of the Tennessee Supreme Court, ADR Commission, the Tennessee Valley Mediation Association, the Tennessee & Knoxville Bar Associations, TAPM, and the Florida Supreme Court, Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission. He has published widely in the field of ADR in several professional journals, including the Florida and Tennessee Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission newsletters.

Joe is a former active duty United States Army Armored Cavalry Officer and former United States Air Force Special Agent with service overseas.

Joe holds a Bachelor of Science Degree, a Masters in Public Administration degree, a Juris Doctorate degree and is a candidate for the Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at UT. Joe is a lecturer for University of Tennessee’s Political Science Department, and has lectured at the UT Law School, and is an award winning writer who has published over 85 articles in various professional journals. He serves various veterans groups in both Knox County and E. Tennessee. He is the 2009 recipient of the Gordon Johnston Award for Excellence in the practice of Local Government Law.



Tennessee Valley Mediation Association (TVMA)

Tennessee Valley Mediation Association is a 501(c) non-profit organization with the mission to provide Rule 31 mediation training and continuous education for existing and prospective professionals wanting to perform mediation services. The TVMA offers Rule 31 training in civil and family law.

Anyone needing continuous education for general, legal, and ethics credits may attend on the third Tuesday of each month. The time is 6:00 – 7:00 pm.
